The 16-channel 1640i is the flagship mixer of the series featuring a full 16 mono mic/line channels each with 4-band dual sweep Perkins EQ, a whopping six aux sends each with pre/post and solo capability, 4 sub groups and a powerful master section. The 1640i’s full-featured 16x16 FireWire capability allows the user to route all channels, aux sends, sub groups and master L/R to their favorite DAW.

preSonus have updated their BlueTube DP range of half-rack valve microphone preamplifiers, the result being the two products reviewed here: the BlueTube DP V2 and the TubePre V2. The mic input stage, common to both devices, is based on the company's Class-A XMAX preamp circuit, and the user is offered the ability to 'dial in' the desired amount of valve warmth, or, of course, to use only solid-state circuitry.
 
RCF Ayra 5
RCF have a solid and long‑established reputation for building PA systems and drivers, but now they're addressing the budget‑conscious home‑recording market with their Ayra range of studio monitors. Under review here is the Ayra 5, a conventional two‑way, active speaker based around a front‑ported MDF enclosure. Rounded corners reduce cabinet-edge diffraction, while the slotted port has been designed to minimise port distortion and air noise. RCF have given the cabinet an understated black finish, to make it attractive to studio owners as well as those wanting more serious desktop speakers for computer gaming or multimedia applications.
